Leadership Development Reference Story: Joining the Executive Club
Internal promotions are a benefit to you and your organisation; however the danger
lies in the individual not realising and acting upon their potential. Once a
promotion has taken place the behaviour and attitude of an individual needs to
adapt and change to fulfil the role of their new position. They now need to

the Executive Club. At HFI we believe that through our experience and expertise
we can identify and develop your executive team members into
successful leaders.
Recently we have been working with a H.R Group director who was not creating a big
enough impact with his team during meetings and presentations. We assessed the director
and set up a
360 degree survey so that we could establish the individuals’ needs
and also identify how he was being perceived by the rest of his team.
Through his
individual assessment we discovered that he was focused more on
the technical area of things rather then relating to the different members of his
team. The 360 degree survey correlated with this as it conveyed how, although he
was highly respected for his level of expertise, he had a complete lack of political
awareness when it came to the different members of his department and other departments
within the organisation. Ultimately, we identified that the problem was that
he
was NOT behaving like an executive.
We meet with the H.R Director every 6 weeks and through
one on one coaching
and training we have given him a clearer understanding and knowledge of the individual
differences between people. Through this coaching we have given him an insight into
how he needs to adapt his behaviour to ensure he is an effective executive leader
for his department within the company. With this coaching we have made significant
progress and there has been a change in the co-operation between him and his team
and their interaction with other departments. Through 360 degree surveys we can
continue to effectively measure the change and progression that has taken place.
