Organisational Culture Reference Story: Organising Your Culture

Recently a leading Housing association was formed through four leading mergers and so they needed to unify their different cultures in order to work as one united company. Looking at the organisational culture of your organisation holds importance as it conveys how the people within your company work and where the strengths and developmental aspects of your team lie. The more organised and united your culture is the stronger the benefit for your organisation.

HFI have constructed a questionnaire which identifies 13 different dimensions of culture; this enables an organisation to identify the differences between the ideal and actual culture of their team. We used the CVQ (Culture Values Questionnaire) to ascertain the culture aims for this organisation. Once the senior management had established the ideal culture they were looking for, HFI then used questionnaires and focus groups with the employees to establish the actual culture and behaviours within the company. We aimed to investigate the existing and preferred culture of the company and also the different sectors within the company. The goal of this was to define a common culture for this company.

The results of our investigation allowed the company to see the difference between the various merging groups and their cultures, and also the gaps between the ideal culture that was wanted with the actual culture of the corporation. Due to HFI they were able to identify how to unify the different cultures and by focusing on specific aspects of the organisational culture; they are working in training and development to create and maintain one unified company.

We are currently working with this business to select and recruit individuals who will fit in and work effectively within this organisational culture.
